9 reviews for EL34 / 6CA7 / KT77 Tubes

I bought a matched quad of vintage 1960’s Mullard 6CA7 xf2’s for my Willsenton R8 after buying an expensive set of “boutique” valves. These valves are expensive, but even the boutique valves (Sophia Electric KT88-ST) which I had were not a match for the Mullards. Very impressed with them as well as the service from Jim at Valvesnmore.

Decided to use Valvesnmore to tube roll my new Willsenton R8
Got a complete set of vintage tubes including the matched quad set of Sventlana original EL34 Winged “C”
Now, the default tubes, that the R8 come with are good. Or at least I thought so.
I think most Audiophiles have an uncontrollable upgrade itch, and when I read reviews about what the R8 could do with better quality tubes, I just had to dive in.
Once I fitted the new tubes…..
    The difference was astounding, seriously.
I can’t stop listening to music.
    Hope this review helps others.

Jim guided me (via email) through my recent purchase of a matched quad of Svetlana Winged C EL34 tubes. They were dispatched very promptly and as soon as I installed them, I knew they were special.

The additional clarity, without any hint of harshness or ‘edge’ is giving me a deeper insight into the music. Texture on vocals is astonishing and the beautifully smooth, but detailed, top end is wonderful to listen to.

I am delighted with the purchase and they have taken my amp, and my enjoyment, to the next level. Jim’s knowledgeable advice was invaluable and he offers an ‘old-fashioned’ level of service (and I mean that as a great compliment) which is rare these days.

I have already ordered another matched pair (this time Sylvania 6SN7s) following Jim’s advice again, and I am eagerly awaiting delivery.

Thanks, Jim, for providing this service (not to mention the fantastic YouTube videos!). You are my go-to guy for tubes!

All the best from the UK. Zed.

I also bought a matched pair of Sylvania GTA tubes, following Jim’s recommendation that they would have great synergy with the Svetlana Winged Cs. As expected, I was not disappointed! Jim included a handwritten note with the tubes (a lovely touch) telling me that not only were my pair electrically matched but that he had also listened to them in his own preamp to check for (lack of) noise and good sound quality, prior to dispatch. This level of service is very hard to find these days and is one more reason to support Valves N More. Thanks again, Jim! 😊

I have a Willsenton R8 and have already brought a replacement set of tubes from Jim for it. Having caught the roll bug I swapped the latest power amp tubes for new KT88’s Gold Lions which I thought were good but recently replaced these with a quad of true vintage Mullard EL34 xf2’s on offer from this site. So far I can say that the sound they produce is outstanding!. They sound more powerful and detailed than any of the others….we can’t stop listening to them.
Thanks to Jim I also got a spare tube and hand written note to explain how they tested and sounded…outstanding customer care and brilliant sounding tubes, thanks Jim.

I don’t have the words to describe how special these tubes are.
I have a excellent transistor rig. Always wanted a vintage tube amp.
I took a chance after watching a lot of reviews about the R8. Then knowing that the tubes would be crap, plans were to get some vintage tubes from some cool guy from a whole other country.
I am blown away and don’t think it can get any better.. I’m so happy. Really, life changed.
If you’re an audiophile you might understand.
Just take the plunge. Awsome service. Awesome sound.
    Jason Weiser.

I know I’ve been spoiled but I think I’m an EL 34 convert thanks to these Mullards (xf2 series).

I’m listening to Sonny Clark and I just love the warmth of sound but with nothing being held back. Like sitting in a chair at Van Gelder’s parents house. I can’t wait to dive into my collection and now that I’m listening pretty thanks to my good luck I’m curious (in the future) what other EL’s might bring.

All thanks again to you Jim for your continued patience.

I ordered the Sylvania gold preamp set along with 4 matched EL34 Millard XF2 to replace my newly purchased Willsenton R8 stock tube (I didn’t make use of the stock tube)

I was surprised at the beginning that my speakers did not deliver the soundstage image as expected (or at least as before), so I reworked their placement and it blew me away.

I really enjoyed my new sound (let’s say music) and specially with Song of Our Homeland (Izzy), Sorry seems to be the hardest word (Terez Montcalm) and Tin pan alley (Stevie Ray). it is just magic:
    – Izzy: in my old system her voice was just typing on my head. In my new setup, her voice is wrapping me and it sounds right and gorgeous.
    – Montcalm: her voice was so shining, so solid, so beautiful (compared to my old system) she was singing right there in front of me.
    – Stevie Ray: the guitar sounds so real it was bluffing. When the string is attacked in the middle of the track it is breathtaking. The drums sound absolutely beautiful travelling from the half left to the half right, it is just exquisite.

PS: all my hearing were done via Apple music and in TR mode.

I was afraid of the bass response, but it is excellent (solid, clear and not booming) on my speakers, and it is quite surprising. it is slightly lower in some frequencies than my old setup with the subwoofer running.
I was considering replacing my subwoofer to be able to pair it with the Willsenton, I changed my mind I will stick with my current setup.

    My old setup
    – Sherwood R863 AV receiver (10 years old)
    – speakers : Jean Marie Reynaud Euterpe (10 years old)
    – subwoofer Mosscade Titan 03.5 (10 years old)
    – Cables : Offenbach 4mm

    My new setup
    – Willsenton R8 re-tubed
    – speakers : Jean-Marie Reynaud Euterpe (10 years old) 4 ohms 90db.
    – Chord Rumour X cables
and I added yesterday a DAC : Chord Mojo 2.

I would like to thank Jim for all his valuable advices, support and of course for the tubes quality and the cristal clear user manual included in the box.
So thanks Jim you are a valuable person.

Jim was super helpful and responsive with all questions I asked when shopping the site. I would say I learned from his responses. I purchased a matching quad of el34 nos RFT’s and some ecc 83 RFT’s. Also some 1964 6n2p’s. They were replacements for the stock tubes in a Fezz Integrated Amp. Absolutely so smooth, dynamic, so alive in the lower end and a piano key is divine. Overall Excellent. A good investment to make something good , great. Good notes on the purchases and rapid processing and shipping. Doubling up on the knowledge they have to offer.
