    A tube that deserves its good reputation. There are better sounding tubes out there but I find that this one is like a reliable old friend I can always turn to and have fun with. I use it in my Bottlehead Crack.

    I purchased both Tungram and Phillips SQ E80cc preamp tubes for the mellow tone kits preamp kit. After rolling both sets of tubes I find I prefer the sound the Tungram Tube over the Phillips special quality. However, it’s a matter of taste…… In my set up, The Tungram tube has a more balanced natural presentation…… however, the Phillips SQ Is a tiny bit quieter and puts the singer more forward….. I was expecting an improvement in the sound since it was a more expensive tube and was surprised that I preferred the tube that was half the price.… Anyways, the melatonin kit preamp is a real winner! Profound improvements were made!

    First of all thank you Jim for the help. I can’t believe what the RCA 12AU7 clear top did for my PrimaLuna. Even with the first song it blew my mind how much the sound changed. I fell back into my seat closed my eyes and my whole body went to the music. The stock tubes are really crap! I look forward to working with you to finish changing out my other tubes.
