Regarding the Matsushita 12AX7, my all time favourite tube has always been the Telefunken 12AX7, but given that these are now almost unobtainium (especially when it comes to finding a well balanced pair), the Matsushita is almost the Telefunken’s equal in so many ways, so I would say to you, that if you are having trouble finding the Telefunkens, then the Matsushita 12AX7 are a perfect alternative tube.

NEC 12RHH14 is my new reference, taking over from my beloved Telefunken 12AX7 smooth-plate. Here is my description of the sound:
Bass: Deep, purposeful, textured, well-toned, but NEVER overbearing.
Midrange: Clear, detailed, and smooth.
Treble: Highly detailed with the twin mica being the sweeter of the two, while the single mica countered the sweetness of the twin mica with more sparkle.
Air: Superb.
Tone: Superb.
Soundstage: The width and height goes for miles, but just as important, so does the depth.
CONCLUSION:
Simply this – if you don’t own at least one of these 12RHH14 versions; well, you should; otherwise you are missing out badly. Both versions are superb, with the single mica version being my new reference. Luckily, it’s the single top mica version that is not quite as rare as the twin top mica. Still, if you can get the twin mica version, buy both, as they are both excellent sounding tubes.
