Greetings! I live very near to a local radio broadcast tower and I had trouble with my stereo system sometimes picking up broadcasts at night that interfered with the music I was listening to. I read in my vintage SAE integrated amplifier manual that Coaxial Shielded RCA cable should be used for connecting sources for low noise. I found a company named KnuKonceptz.com that has the Karma V3 Coaxial RCA cables that just sound right and is reasonable priced at $7.49 for a 3 foot pair. There is longer lengths if you need them. I buy longer 4 channel Karma V3 cable for my reel to reel machines. It is very convenient to have one shielded cable with 4 RCA connectors at each end of the cable for the record and play outputs/inputs. I do not have noise problems any longer with any listening level. I also bought Krux 12 foot pair 8 gauge interlaced braided speaker wire with banana plugs for $119 from KnuKonceptz.com The speaker wire just sounds right. High notes are smooth and detailed….bass notes are quick with authority. My system chain is Parsound P5 preamp to Jolida 3502 tube amp to Magnepan MMG speakers. I was very glad to find low noise cables that just sound right at a reasonable price in order to keep our local radio station out of my music! I thank the folks who wrote the vintage SAE manual for the coaxial RCA cable idea. There are so many cables out there and so many ideas about cables. Best Wishes to all! Brian Cullen

That’s interesting Brian! I wonder at what point in the chain the unwanted signal was getting inserted. Clearly something was acting as an antenna but the input stages on the amps should have been filtering that out. Did you do any testing to identify where it was coming in?

Hi Charles, I use at times a vintage David Hafler 100 preamplifier with mm phono input into a diy Dynaco ‘Stereo 70″ amplifier powering Polk Audio Monitor 10 speakers. When I turn on the phono section of the DH 100 I could hear people talking and music coming in at very low levels from the speakers. The phono section could be the antenna….I live in a house built in 1930 constructed with real size 2X4’s and a closed coal chute in the basement! My listening room is on the third floor.( Our Dan, Scott, and Annie are now grown and have their own homes ) The receptacles on the third floor are not grounded. When I inserted into the system shielded coaxial RCA cables from the turntable and all other sources… the Polk speakers were quiet from the radio station nearby.Thank you for your reply! Best Wishes, Brian
